One Hundred miles from the Portuguese capital Lisbon, at the highest point of a hill near a small 12th century village, we arrive at some blue and white buildings, with a pleasing contrast against the land, we have found Fonte de Avis a boutique winery. Once Napoleonic land, now, they are part of the Herdade Fonte de Avis (Fonte de Avis Homestead), of Alentejo. This perfectly situated winemaker in the excellent wine making region of Alentejo, a vast rural area composed of smooth hills that is also known for its cork and olive trees. The vineyards that were planted now occupy 12 acres and are complemented by a small cellar equipped with the most modern production technology. The result, are a heavy body, fruity and very aromatic, which is highly suitable for aging. Even the most common wines produced by the winery are well structured and very pleasing to the nose and the palette.
