HDF (high-density fiberboard) or MDF (medium-density fiberboard) are composite boards that are used in woodworking to make cabinetry, wall panels, shelving, and furniture. They can be pasted with veneers or laminates on one or both sides or can be finished with paint. Standard forms of MDF have densities as follows: Average density: 700 – 800kg/m3 Core density: 600 – 700kg/m3 Face density: 1000 – 1100kg/m3 These are now considered to be part of a wide range of dry-process fibreboards with the following densities. HDF: Above 800kg/m3 LDF: Below 650kg/m3 ULDF: Below 550kg/m3 Due to variation between brands, the weight of MDF is not constantly proportional to thickness. Typical weights, based on standard MDF with average density 750kg/m3.

Moisture resistant MDF. Moisture resistant MDF is manufactured to be used in environments with risks of moisture or humidity, avoiding the issues that would plague traditional MDF. This is achieved through using a moisture repellant resin during manufacture, ensuring that an MDF board is not prone to absorbing moisture to the same extent. When looking to use moisture resistant MDF boards within a project it’s important to remember that resistance is not the same thing as waterproofing. The uses of moisture-resistant MDF are quite similar to the uses of regular MDF, except specified within environments that possess high levels of humidity.

MDF FR is made with a synthetic resin adhesive system and is designed for critical applications where Class 1 flame retardant material is required. MDF FR has a low flame spread and smoke development as well as extremely low VOC emissions. During the manufacturing process, the flame retardant additive is blended with the fiber throughout the panel. This process delivers superior performance versus topical flame retardant applications. In addition, MDF FR can be machined, cut, sanded, and grooved. Features & Benefits: FSC® certified panels available upon request Ideal Applications LEED Projects, Hospitals, Schools, Theatres, Libraries, Offices, Museums and Hotels
